The boys, mostly 10 to 12 year olds, are seen packing, leaving home, setting up camp, filling their bedding with straw, fetching water, chopping wood, and preparing meals. Down at the beach, they swim, play cricket and hockey, and chase each other around the dunes. The film ends with a day of organised sports attended by the Mayor of Rotherham, and preparations for a bonfire.
These camps were held annually from 1934-39. Most of the film is believed to date from 1938, with additions made in 1939.
